Diaz vs Masvidal – UFC 244: Masvidal vs. Diaz is an upcoming mixed martial arts pay-per-view event produced by the Ultimate Fighting Championship that is planned to take place on November 2, 2019 at Madison Square Garden in New York City, New York. The event will mark the UFC’s 500th live event.
If you aren’t excited for Jorge Masvidal’s upcoming clash with Nate Diaz at UFC 244 next month in New York City then there’s something seriously wrong with you.
That’s because Masvidal and Diaz, regardless of whatever bogus “BMF” title they are fighting for at UFC 244, are two of the most gritty fighters in the sport today. They may not command an undefeated professional record or an incredible win streak, but the two welterweights create more buzz and excitement around their fights than almost anyone, which is always followed through with superb performances inside of the Octagon.
With Masvidal coming off a record-setting, five-second knockout finish over welterweight contender Ben Askren at UFC 239 and Diaz returning from a three-year hiatus to defeat Anthony Pettis at UFC 241, the upcoming NYC headliner seems to be oozing with even more anticipation and expectations than ever before.
In preparation for UFC 244’s matchup between “Gamebred” and Diaz, the organization has released one hell of a promo video (shown above). While we’ve already seen some promotion for the “BMF” title fight next month from inside Madison Square Garden, including a recent NYC press conference (see it HERE), this absolutely takes the cake. There’s just something about this preview that gets the blood boiling.
One of these two MMA veterans will ultimately fall on their sword at UFC 244 on Nov. 2 while the other will walk away with the new “BMF” belt. Only time will tell if the hyped main event lives up to its billing, but based on history and readily available skill set Masvidal and Diaz should produce an instant classic when they finally square off.
The 500th UFC live event takes place Saturday, November 2, for Madison Square Garden in New York City. At the top of that card is a welterweight battle between Jorge Masvidal and Nate Diaz.

That fight booking was put in motion in August. Diaz returned to action for the first time in nearly three years at UFC 241. On that night, the Stockton scrapper scored a unanimous decision win over former UFC lightweight champion Anthony Pettis.
Many expected Diaz to call for a third fight against Conor McGregor after his hand was raised, but Diaz didn’t mention the Irish fighter at all. Instead, he called out a man who might be in the running “Fighter of Year” and/or “Comeback Fighter of the Year” in Jorge Masvidal.
“The reason I was off was because everybody sucks,” Diaz told UFC commentator Joe Rogan. “There was nobody to fight. With this belt, I want to defend it against… Jorge Masvidal had a good last fight, good last fight. All respect to the man, but there ain’t no gangsters in this game anymore. There ain’t nobody who does it right but me and him. So I know my man’s a gangster, but he ain’t no West Coast gangster.”
With that, the camera cut to Masvidal, who was in the crowd for the event. The smile on his face seemed to indicate that he would not have an issue facing off against Diaz.

Masvidal is 2-0 in 2019 with two knockout victories. His most recent win was a five-second stoppage of former Bellator welterweight champion Ben Askren. That knockout could score Masvidal, “Knockout of the Year” accolades.
Masvidal and Diaz take part in the UFC 244 press conference today in New York City. That event takes place at The Rooftop at Pier 17. You can watch a live stream of the event below at 7 p.m. ET.
